Worried About Security

When ecommerce began it's journey security was never really thought about and the ability to interupt data transfer to acquire credit card information was no more dificult than implementing a simple phone tap. It wasn't long then before encryption was needed to stop this from happening and SSL (secure sockets layer) was introduced.

Here at Sitebox Ltd we have invested in a GlobalSign Security Certificate who are the market leaders in SSL encryption. Whenever you are entering details that you consider to be vunerable you must check the following:

1. Check to see if there is "https://" at the beginning of the website address. (the s is the secure part)
   
   
2. Look for the green bar or green writing within your browser's address area. This is displayed in different ways depending upon the browser but there is usually some form of padlock that goes with it as well.

3. You can also check the certificate in more detail by clicking on the padlock or green bar and reading the information within that.

When it comes to paying for an item we use 3 diferent payment providers which enable you to choose which one is best for you. These are the following:

1. SagePay

   

   Sagepay are the UK and Ireland's leading independent payment service provider and security is their number one priority. They accept almost every credit / debit card and are probably the best option to take if you are unsure about the other options. They appear on within the shopping basket as credit / debit card.

   PayPal are effectively an online bank that allows you to send and receive money at the click of a button. Once you have an account with them you can connect your own personal bank account and cards to it allowing you pay for things very simply. PayPal are known world wide and are recognized by millions of people as a secure way of transferring money online.

3. Google Wallet (Formerly Google Checkout)

   

   Google Wallet are fast becoming a very popular way of buying & selling online. As we all know Google do not do things by halves so as you can imagine this payment processor is just as good as the others. For people with Google accounts this is probably the best way to pay securely online. Like PayPal you can assign cards to the account and use them quickly and easily when it's time to pay.
