Your neck is very complex and contains many vital structures such as blood vessels, nerves, the cervical spine, ligaments, muscles and the spinal cord. Your cervical spine (or cervical vertebrae) is what holds your head up and gives it movement, while the muscles around your spine provide stability.

When you look up, your head, about the weight of a bowling ball, is held up by the muscles in your neck. And when you work with your hands above your head, the extra weight of your limbs puts even more pressure on your neck, causing both your neck and shoulder muscles to contract to stabilise and control your head and arms.

Over time, these muscles, especially those in the back of your neck, become overused, fatigued and strained, causing your neck to become tired and sore and leading to chronic pain. The Necprotech Story

The idea for Necprotech came about in 1998 when New Zealander Darrell Poole, an avid rock climber, almost fell to his death on a rock-climbing trip.

Darrell was 10 meters up on a rock when his belayer, the climber?s buddy who controls the rope from the ground to keep the climber from falling, took his eye off Darrell because of a sore neck from looking up for too long. Darrell fell almost six meters before his belayer was able to gain control of the rope again. It was a close call and the idea for Necprotech developed from there.

After thorough research on neck pain and injuries, it was clear that there was a need for an effective neck support system, especially for those in the trades who were always looking up: painters, plasterers, builders, electricians, window cleaners, boat builders, automobile workers, and so on. It was found that musculoskeletal disorders (which include neck disorders) were most common in these trades.

So the Necprotech team partnered up with an industrial designer with the brief that the product had to effectively support the head and neck, and be comfortable and simple to wear. The first prototype was developed in 2001. And after years of rigorous testing, redevelopment and several prototypes later, the final product was created.

How is necprotech worn?

It goes over your shoulders and secures in the front, just like a backpack. It's very comfortable to wear and fully adjustable to fit snugly onto your body.

Will necprotech fit me?

Necprotech is a one-size-fits-all. It's fully adjustable to fit most sizes and shapes and can expand to 122cm (48 inches) around the chest and waist. The neck support strut stretches to around 21cm (8.3 inches) from the base of the neck. So, depending on the length of your neck and back, Necprotech should fit a person up to around 195cm (6 foot 4 inches) tall.

Can the neck support pads be replaced?

Yes, you can buy the pads and can simply be replaced by ripping off the old one and attaching a new one.

How is necprotech cleaned?

Simply wipe with a cloth moistened with a mild detergent and air dry.

How long will it last?

If it's well maintained, your Necprotech should last at least five years, even with continual use.

Does necprotech meet safety standards?
