DuPont Tyvek Housewrap is the ideal breathable membrane for timber frame wall systems, and is also suitable for steel frame and concrete wall construction. It is surface-applied, and should be fixed directly to the sheathing ply/OSB, insulation or blockwork.
Tyvek Housewrap is made of high density polyethylene fibres for long-term protection against the elements. This durable, lightweight breathable membrane is windtight and water resistant and designed for use in new build, refurbishment or extension projects.

As a proficient DIYer I had a project to convert a large wooden shed into two offices and a workshop. This involved adding a barrier to stop damp and cold air from entering the building. I was surprised how strong this barrier is. I had to apply the membrane to the inside of the shed structure and allow space for insulation. It survived many a poorly aimed blow from a hammer stapler and I worked through several large segmented knife blades cutting and trimming the membrane. The difference was immediately noticable.
